5 Business Transformation and the Visa Application Process Immigration Online for students Agents and providers can apply on behalf evisas for most students (progressively rolling out to visa required nationals applying outside NZ) emedical speeding up health assessments Visa View for providers to check the status of a student Visa Verification Service the student can authorise a third party to access their status (eg: banks/hospitals) Soon launching the Identity capability biometrics Soon launching a new website

7 Apply Online don t be shy Students can apply Agents and providers can apply on behalf Many will receive evisas, rolling out to more and more nationalities over time Its faster (February data shows that it was 10% faster for applications decided within 5 days and we are always working on improving timeliness) Its cheaper than applying manually

8 Work while studying Most students can work while they study up to 20 hours per week and full time during vacations Students should use this ability smartly and try to get work relevant to their study - to aid post study employment opportunities Students need to know their employment rights. This is an agent and provider responsibility too

9 Post Study Work Most students who graduate with a tertiary qualification can apply for Post Study Work Visas (PSWV) Level 7 + need to have studied for one year; Level 4 6 need to have studied for two years There are two PSWV s 1 Open work visa (12 months) 2 Employer Assisted work visa (2/3 years) Requires a job offer relevant to study The work visas are not restricted to graduates of specific disciplines, they are available to eligible graduates of all study areas (from cookery to commerce, IT to travel)

10 Post Study Work continued Students who use their work rights smartly while studying (to obtain part time work in their field of study, for example) may find it easier to connect with employers once they graduate This may help them to eventually obtain a job offer that meets residence requirements Finding skilled employment for any graduate is not a certainty INZ has a number of tools and resources to help you prepare your students, such as the following websites

Changes to the Skilled Migrant Category to encourage growth in NZ s Regions - tripling the points for jobs outside of Auckland INZ has become much more open with providers about risk and value, enabling them to make informed decisions - such as the agent waiver declaration Pathway Student Visas

13 Pathway Student Visa Progression of programmes on a single visa of up to 5 years validity Allows up to 3 programmes and providers Tuition fees and funds proven for 1st course or 1st year Qualifying providers that have accepted their invitation have been published on the INZ website Qualifying providers will enter into an agreement outlining management of pastoral care and study progression
