1 International Organization for Migration (IOM) 2014 National SAH Conference Halifax IOM is an Inter Governmental Organization (IGO) with 155 member states. A further 11 states hold observer status, as do numerous international (38) and non governmental (53) organizations. 470 field locations in over 100 countries. Unmatched deployment capacity for flexible and mobile activities. Established partnerships with local stakeholders and hosts countries. Staff with field expertise and understanding of migrants needs. Cost effectiveness through projectization (costs sharing). 1
2 IOM supports Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) in: Health assessment Pre departure orientation Case processing Resettlement transportation Needs assessments, cultural and medical profiles Visa Application Services IOM works with Canadian Provinces and Territories for: Documents integrity and verification services Seasonal and temporary migrant training IOM also implements projects for other Federal Agencies including: Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) IOM works in partnership with a wide range of partners and stakeholders abroad and in Canada; It is among many organizations who are involved in resettlement of refugees; The level of IOM assistance may differ by location; IOM is not present in certain locations; All categories of refugees are offered the same services. 2
3 IOM has two offices in Canada: The Ottawa office opened in It provides support and liaison for two activities: Resettlement Operations and Movements, and the Canadian Orientation Abroad (COA) Project. The Toronto office opened in It is responsible for the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) program Total arrivals from 01 January to 26 May: 3,455 persons Indicates slower start Arrivals scheduled in June and July: over 1,200 as of today, with more to be scheduled 3
