13 Gather Your Documents (Continue) Additional Documentation May Be Required Your academic preparation, such as: Transcripts, diplomas, degrees, or certificates from schools you attended; and Standardized test scores required by your U.S. school; Your intent to depart the United States upon completion of the course of study; and How you will pay all educational, living and travel costs

14 5. Prepare for Visa Interview Although you should remember to bring all potentially useful documents, it is also important to remember that the visa interview is a conversation. It is not a document review session. The burden of proof is on you personally to show that you intend to return to your country of residence after your studies. The best thing that you can do is to clearly articulate the short-term educational goals and intention.

15 Prepare for Visa Interview (Continue) Why you want to go to the specific school What you plan to study How you plan to use your education when you return. Be ready to cover this information in no more than 3 to 5 sentences, and practice saying those sentences with family and friends until you become comfortable with the English. Here are some of the types of questions that you might be asked: Why have you chosen this university? Who will sponsor your education? Do you intend to work in the U.S.? What are your plans after finishing the degree? What was your TOEFL/IELTS score?"

Visa refusal/ineligible under section 221(g) 1) The consular officer did not have all of the information required to determine if you are eligible to receive a visa 2) Your application is incomplete and/or further documentation is required listing which documents you need to provide for a second visa interview

If your application was denied because documentation or information is missing, you can provide the missing documents or information as soon as possible After submitting the documentation, your visa application can then be processed to conclusion to determine whether you qualify for a visa You have one year from the date you were refused a visa to submit the additional information

Visa refusal/ineligible under section 214(b) 1) Did not sufficiently demonstrate to the consular officer that you qualify for the nonimmigrant visa category you applied for; and/or 2) Did not overcome the presumption of immigrant intent, required by law, by sufficiently demonstrating that you have strong ties to your home country that will compel you to leave the United States at the end of your temporary stay.

20 Try for a Second Visa Interview (Continue) Visa refusal 214(b) is NOT a final decision If you feel there is additional information that should be considered related to the visa decision, or there are significant changes in your circumstances since your last application, you may re-apply for the F1 visa.

Visa refusal, or ineligible under 212(a) 1) The consular officer determined you are likely to become a public charge in the United States for your existence and financial support in the United States. 2) You falsely presented facts and were not truthful in an attempt to receive a visa or enter the United States. 3) you were considered to have been unlawfully present in the United States Solution: you must demonstrate financial support during your temporary stay in the United States.
