More about the Scheme What is it? an inventory of all bridges in the country and rating mechanism for their structural condition. Developed by Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Rationale Better data management for proper maintenance of bridges. Significance How does it operate? largest platform in the world owned by a single owner, with database that could exceed 1,50,000 bridge structures. As part of the scheme, following markers are identified for each bridge: o National Identity Number for each bridge. o Bridge Classification Number according to the structure type o structural rating to indicate the structural condition o Socio-Economic Bridge Rating Number to indicate the importance of bridge towards the local area Coverage Bridges is National Highway, State Highway and a district road.

2 MAXIMUM RESIDUE LEVEL (MRL) Indian food exports are being affected owing to detection of pesticides exceeding the prescribed maximum residue limits. What is MRL? A maximum residue level (MRL) is the highest level of a pesticide residue that is legally tolerated in or on food or feed when pesticides are applied correctly. (The traces pesticides leave in treated products are called "residues"). Related issues with regard to food safety What is The Codex Alimentarius? The Codex Alimentarius is a collection of internationally adopted food standards and related texts presented in a uniform manner. The Codex Alimentarius includes provisions in respect of food hygiene, food additives, residues of pesticides and veterinary drugs, contaminants, labelling and presentation, methods of analysis and sampling, and import and export inspection and certification. The Codex Alimentarius Commission The Codex Alimentarius Commission is the body established by FAO and WHO to develop food standards under the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme. The Codex Alimentarius Commission is based in FAO in Rome. It coordinates input from 187 Member Countries and one Member Organization to develop and endorse the international food standards that comprise the Codex Alimentarius. WORLD AFFAIRS INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL FOR MONUMENTS AND SITES (ICOMOS) Symposium and General Assembly of International Council for Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) conclude successfully in Delhi. What is the significance of the event? General Assembly of ICOMOS is organized for the first time in India. It provides an international framework for the conservation and restoration of historic buildings. Despite Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) setting up the National Anti Microbial Resistance Research and Surveillance Network (AMRRSN), AMR is on the rise in alarming levels. More about AMRSN Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has set up a National Anti-Microbial Resistance Research and Surveillance Network (AMRRSN) to enable compilation of National Data of AMR at different levels of Health Care. ICMR is carrying out surveillance of drug resistance to antibiotics through its Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Research Network (AMRSN) in six pathogenic groups. The data is being collected from CMC, Vellore, JIPMER, Puducherry, PGIMER Chandigarh and AIIMS, New Delhi. NATIONAL REGISTER OF CITIZENS Assam Chief Minister said that a second draft of the National Register of Citizens would be published to include in it all genuine citizens of the State. There is an apprehension that a large number of people will be excluded in the updating of NRC, which is meant to identify the original residents of the north-eastern state and check illegal migration, especially from Bangladesh. What is National Registrar of Citizens? The National Register of Citizens (NRC) contains names of Indian citizens. The NRC was prepared in 1951, after the Census of The Registrar General of Citizen Registration establish and maintain the National Register of Indian Citizens. NRC with reference to Assam It is being updated to make it a reference point for checking an individual s citizenship status in Assam in order to identify Bangladeshi infiltrators. The updating is based on the Legacy data comprising two documents the 1951 NRC and electoral rolls up to March 24, Assam government is carrying out the exercise under the guidance of Registrar General of India.
