6 BRAZIL Political Social Economic Overview Market conditions have deteriorated since April/18 due to truck drivers' strike, world cup and political instability-general elections. Currency devaluation of up to 28%. Both political and economic volatility have soared. Economic downturn since early

9 COLOMBIA Political Social Economic Overview The newly elected president Ivan Duque s term of office began August 7th, 2018 and will end on August 7th, 2022 The Colombian economy grew at an annual rate of 2.2% in the first quarter of 2018 and 2.8% in the second. The economy still operates below capacity, with an annual potential growth estimated by the Bank s staff at 3.3% - 3.5% for 2018 Country-risk levels have remained stable, and there has been a remarkable improvement in consumer and business confidence since the Peace Agreement was signed in 2016 The inflation, as expected by the Government, was close to the target of 3.0% to 3.5% The unemployment rate is higher than in other Latin American countries but has remained relatively stable during the last year. 9

11 COLOMBIA With the new Government, a better economy atmosphere is hope to regain confidence, maintain a growing economy and increase foreign investment New possibilities of Orange Economy: includes sectors whose goods and services are based on intellectual property: architecture, visual and performing arts, crafts, film, design, publishing, games design, fashion, music, advertising, software, TV and radio, etc.) Increase of the competitiveness, productivity and Tourism is expected In terms of the overseas education market, travel to live an experience instead of just travel to study is becoming a trend. Experiential programs will be more attractive than just an academic language program, for example. MAIN THREATS Fluctuation of currencies, for example, the US dollar, and The on-shore agencies established in countries like Australia opening off-shore offices in Colombia and using rules and regulations which may not be consistent with Colombian regulations The on-shore agencies with offices in countries such as Australia and Canada "fighting" for the students in the local market with not very ethical practices Increasing digital marketing campaigns from schools and lack of digital readiness from local agencies 11

12 ECUADOR Political Social Economic Overview Location: north west of South America, bordering the Pacific Ocean at the Equator, between Colombia and Peru Capital City: Quito Population: 15,74 million (2013) Currency: U.S. Dollar Family Oriented, Traditional Area: 256,370 sq. kilometers According to the Ecuadorian Government s Statistics and the US Embassy in Ecuador, a total of ecuadorians have traveled abroad to study during the last year. We have divided our statistics into 3 main groups: America, Europe and Other countries Official language: Spanish 12

13 ECUADOR 3256 AMERICA Total number of students: USA VISAS In 2016, the USA Embassy in Quito and General Consulate in Guayaquil granted Visas. 2.5% - 3% of this visas were J1 and F1 visas, student visas. F1: J1: 2089 Visas USA is the main destination for Ecuadorian students, not just in America but overall. Canada is really close, and numbers are increasing. Followed by spanish speaking contries and Brazil, with just 600 students. 13

14 ECUADOR 1231 Europe Total number of students: Other Countries Total number of students: Ecuadorian students traveling abroad have been able to achive their goals because now we have some institutions providing scholarships and educational loans. Spain Germany United Kingdom Russia China Australia New Zeland Almost students have traveled to Europe to study. We do not have records of some European countries like Italy, or France, but the numbers we do have could give us an idea. Spain is the country that received more ecuadorian students in the last year. Other countries that have been considered are: China, Australia and New Zealand. Places like Malta or South Africa are starting to appeal to ecuadorians looking for some study abroad options 14
