6 Major contributions of Immigrants Job creation and job growth in the U.S. - Recent studies show that immigrants promote productivity and innovation, both directly and indirectly through positive spillover effects on American workers. The Fiscal Policy Institute found that, nationally, immigrantowned small businesses generated a total of $776 Billion in receipts and employed an estimated 4.7 million people in The Partnership for a New American Economy found that immigrants started 28 % of all new U.S. businesses in 2011, despite accounting for only 13% of the U.S. population.

These American companies represent 7 of the 10 most valuable brands globally, collectively employ more than 10 million people and generate annual revenue of 4.2 Trillion.

Cutting-edge, American firms Google, Intel, ebay, Yahoo!, Sun, Qualcomm are all immigrantfounded. Growing fields, like semiconductors and medical devices, are full of immigrant-founded companies.

USA wages: 1986 immigration reform law under President Reagan - newly-legalized immigrants got wage gains of about 10%, due partly to increases in workers productivity, benefitting the economy as a whole.

12 Future growth for TEXAS if Congress passes Immigration bill By the year 2020: a new temporary worker program (proposed in Senate bill S.744) is expected to create: 4,721 new jobs in Texas for citizens and immigrants in agriculture, retail trade, construction & other sectors increase Texans real personal income by $286 million in 2012 dollars increase tourism to the U.S., including to Texas which saw about 1,283,000 overseas visitors in 2011

13 Future growth if Congress acts: The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that, relative to current law projections, enacting the Senate immigration reform bill will: increase national real GDP by 3.3 % in 2023 and increase it 5.4% in 2033 increase the size of the U.S. economy by roughly $700 billion in 2023 and $1.4 trillion in 2033 in today s dollars

14 Future growth if Congress acts: According to Regional Economic Models, Inc., a set of reforms like the Senate bill that provides a pathway to earned citizenship and expands high-skilled and other temporary worker programs would: boost Texas economic output by $3.8 billion and create approximately 43,097 new jobs in the 1 st year by 2045, the boost to Texas s economic output would be around $18.9 billion, in 2012 dollars

15 More immigrants = stronger finances The Social Security system will benefit from MORE immigration: Additional immigration would help balance an increase in retirees-per-worker as the baby boom generation retires, strengthening the Social Security program. The independent SSA Actuary estimates that the Senate s immigration reform bill will add nearly $300 billion to the Social Security Trust Fund over the next decade and would improve Social Security s finances over the long run, extending Social Security solvency by two years.

16 More immigrants = stronger finances Win-Win: nonpartisan CBO found that if Congress acts to pass the Senate immigration reform bill, it will: reduce the federal budget deficit by nearly $850 billion over next 20 years, drive more economic growth - a fiscal win-win and reduce the federal debt as a share of the economy by 3% in 2023, compared to current immigration law.
