1 NINTH MEETING OF THE INTER-AMERICAN COMMITTEE ON PORTS FIFTEENTH MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD OF THE INTER-AMERICAN COMMITTEE ON PORTS June 18 to 20, 2014 Washington, DC NEWSLETTER 1. The CIP: The Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) of the Organization of American States (OAS) has the objective to serve as a permanent Inter-American forum of the Member States of the Organization for the strengthening of hemispheric cooperation in the area of port sector development, with the active cooperation and participation of the private sector. To accomplish these objectives, the CIP holds regular meetings every two years. The main objectives of the Ninth Meeting of the CIP include assessing compliance with the resolutions and mandates adopted at its eighth meeting (Cartagena, Colombia, 2013), and review the progress made in implementing the Cartagena Action Plan and, very importantly, to approve its extension until 2016; approve the budget of the CIP Secretariat for , stimulate relationships with the private sector and civil society, considering new proposals from the authorities and associate members, elect members and authorities of the Executive Board for the period ; where appropriate, establish Technical Advisory Groups and / Working Groups for the biennium ; among others. 2. The Executive Board of the CIP (CECIP): is responsible for executing the Committee's policies and resolutions. The Executive Board holds regular and special meetings and is comprised of one Chairman, two Vice Chairpersons and the chairpersons of the TAG are, elected for a two year period. The 15 th Meeting of the CECIP, to be held on June 19, 2014 the main objectives are to evaluate the accomplishments of the six existing TAG s approve a venue and date for the next CECIP meetings, among others. The Chairman of the CECIP is the delegation of Peru, the first Vice-Chair is Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the second Vice-Chair is Colombia. The other delegations that are part of the CECIP are Argentina, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Panama, Mexico, United States and Uruguay. 3. The Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) are advisory groups of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP), whose primary objective is to provide technical advice to the Committee on specific aspects of hemispheric port sector development. There are currently four TAGs:
2 (i) Logistics, Innovation and Competitively TAG Chaired by Mexico Member States: Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, United States, Honduras, Paraguay, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela. Associate Members: Instituto Nacional de Logística de Uruguay (INALOG), Asociación de Despachante de Aduana (Uruguay); Instituto de Investigación y Desarrollo Marítimo (INDESMAR, Perú); Terminal Internacional del Sur (TISUR, Perú); Internacional de Contenedores Asociados de Veracruz (ICAVE, México); and PROINTEC (Chile). (ii) Corporate Social Responsibility and Women in Ports TAG Chaired by Panama. Member States: Argentina, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Associate Members: North American Marine Environmental Protection Agency (NAMEPA) (iii) Tourism, Inland Ports and Waterways, Ship Services and Navigation Safety TAG Chaired by Argentina. Member States: Brazil, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Suriname and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Associate Members: Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) (iv) Public Policy, Legislation and Regulation TAG Chaired by Uruguay. Member States: Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. (v) Sustainable Management and Environmental Port Protection Tag Chaired by Venezuela. Member States: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Suriname, United States and Uruguay. Associate Members: International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC), North American Marine Environmental Protection Agency (NAMEPA), Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and Rightship of Australia, (vi) Port Protection and Port Security TAG Chaired by United States. Member States: Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Surinam, Uruguay and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Associate Members: Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) 4. Draft agenda and rules of procedure of the meetings: The draft agendas for the meetings of the Executive Board were prepared by the CIP Secretariat in coordination with the Executive. Participants: The meeting of the Inter-American Committee on Ports is open to the participation of representatives and advisors of the OAS Member States, observer States, international, national and regional organizations, associate members of the Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) and special guests from the academia and the public and private sectors. 8. Registration of participants: Representatives of Member States and Observer States before the OAS should register by note of accreditation from their Chancellery addressed to the Secretariat of the CIP/OAS. Their registration is free.
