2 Somchai Jitsuchon page 2 Took part in a construction of general equilibrium model that analyzed the impact of the introduction of value added tax (VAT) into the Thai tax system Presented a paper in TDRI s year-end conference on income distribution and poverty. The paper s results contributed to the emphasis of the problems in the next National Economic and Social Development Plan. Reviewed and analyzed past and ongoing government policy, both macroeconomic and microeconomic levels, on the alleviation of the country s poverty problem. Participated in developing a local area network (LAN) for TDRI. Organized and lectured to an intensive workshop in the construction of Social Accounting Matrices (SAM) and Computable General Equilibrium models (CGE) to participants from several key government agencies in Thailand. Assisted in setting up a Computable General Equilibrium model at the office of the National Economic and Social Development Board, Thailand. Appointed a sub-committee working on preparation of Thailand s Eight National Economic and Social Development Plan, which is the country s master plan for economic and social development. In that position, provided input from economic policy researches conducted at TDRI Research Assistant, Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI), Bangkok, Thailand. Constructed several Social Accounting Matrices (SAM) to be use in a number of computable general equilibrium models (CGE). Calibrated the computable general equilibrium models for several economic policy purposes including macroeconomic forecasting, an analysis of the introduction of value added tax in Thailand, an analysis of the impact of the Gulf War and the temporary oil price fluctuation on Thai economy. The results from these calibrations were widely credited and quoted among Thai academics, politicians, and general public. Developed a computer program that retrieved data from several Social Economic Surveys (SES), which are large and complex surveys on Thailand s household income and expenditure. Analyzed data from several Labor Force Surveys (LFS), which are Thailand s major source of data on the functioning of labor market. B. The research also involved econometric estimations by Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) Visiting Researcher, Economic Planning Agency, Tokyo, Japan. Participated in the Agency's comparative study of economic performance among some East and Southeast Asian countries. Producing a paper on overall performance of Thai economy in the past thirty years & 1991 Technical Assistant, Asian Development Bank, Vientiane, Laos. Assisted in the preparation of Laos Third National Economic and Social Development Plan. Reported directly at that position to the current Thailand s prime minister. The achievement included the construction of a macroeconomic model for Laotian economy Special lecturer, National Institute for Development and Administration (NIDA), Bangkok, Thailand. Participated in a design and conduct of a political survey on public opinion on the then upcoming Thailand s general election.
