Evangelos (Van) Abatielos, was born on Noveber 17,1943 in Southern California to Aalia Vengel of Manhattan Beach and Panaghis Andreas Abatielos of Kefalonia, Greece.

3 Evangelos (Van) Abatielos, was born on Noveber 17,1943 in Southern California to Aalia Vengel of Manhattan Beach and Panaghis Andreas Abatielos of Kefalonia, Greece. He was brought up in a strict Greek household where faily and church were of paraount iportance. He was an active eber of Saint Katherine Church, serving as altar boy, where his parents faily were founding ebers. As a young adolescent, he and his faily, left the South Bay and all things failiar to live in his father s native country where he perfected his Greek and acquired a lifelong love for Greece. After one year, when his father cae to the realization that his beloved hoeland had changed, he once again packed up the faily and oved the back to Southern California dying shortly thereafter, leaving his widow and two teenage children struggling to survive. An excellent student and disciplined an of the faily, Van anaged to graduate fro high school with honors while he continued to work to help support the faily. He was offered a scholarship to the University of Southern California, which he accepted. Encouraged by his other s faily, he becae a teacher, quickly advancing to the chairan of the foreign language departent of Palos Verdes High School. Shortly thereafter he arried Vicky Zaferis of Los Angeles and began helping his father-in-law, Ernie Zaferis, in the business that he had started. Seizing the opportunity to expand this seasonal business, he began to work with the ostly Hispanic eployees, using his Spanish to anage labor. He eventually accepted a partnership in 1981 along with his brother-in-law, Ji Zaferis, and continues to work full tie with United Melon Distributors, Inc., and Pegasus Foods, Inc. Aside fro his strong work ethic, he has served on the board of Saint Katherine and Saint Sophia Cathedral, and has reained an active supporter of the church, various private schools and civic charities. He is the very proud father of three daughters, Aalia (Ay) Eugenia (Genna) and Vanessa.
