The lead should contain a summary of the who, what, where, when, why, and how information. Report facts. Do not include your opinion in the article, though you may quote the opinions of other people as part of the story. The information in the body should give details that support the basic information stated in the lead. 14 Short Story Transparency #2 Tips on Writing a Short Story Keep a short story simple. It should have only one or two important characters and one or two settings. A short story begins quickly, often in the middle of the action. The main characters, setting, and problem are described at the beginning of the story. The plot is well-organized and interesting. It is not too long, complicated, or predictable. The story s events lead to the climax, the most important part of the story.
