2 Journalism Employment History triple j radio (105.7fm) - Hack Position: Reporter. Period: 2004-April I resigned to move to India to work as a freelance reporter. I leave April 17, Hack is a daily; half-hour current affairs show for triple j, the national youth network of the ABC. Skills: Independently sourcing and researching stories, digital and mini-disc recording in studio and portable, editing in Pro Tools, Netia and D-Cart. producing online content, photography, doing q and a s with ABC and triple j programs and writing cue sheets. Over two hundred current affairs stories played. Hack highlights have included: Winning Young Australian Journalist of the Year 2008 (Radio Category) MEAA/The Walkley Foundation for three Hack pieces. Political reporting on a range of issues from climate change and refugees to major events, like the apology to Stolen Generations, 2007 Federal Election and APEC. Reporting half hour features on juvenile justice, following a young offender once he s released from custody (replayed on ABC Riverina) and hospital rehabilitation, following a motorcycle accident victim and double lung transplant recipient over two and a half months (replayed on Radio National s Life Matters). Producing the show over eight weeks, including a week long outside broadcast from Burnie, Tasmania during the 2007 federal election. Working well with a team to create unique story angles, challenge, question and change our format as we work all under the pressure of daily deadline. Researching and writing briefs for major political interviews (Kevin Rudd, Malcolm Turnbull, Joe Hockey and Tony Abbott) to assist the host, Kate O toole and previously, Steve Cannane. Reporting and filing solo from on the road locations like Thursday Island, Bathurst, Condobolin, Kinglake and Albury Wodonga. Television Journalism triple jtv - Hack Position: Hack researcher Period: Casual work for two weeks, April I worked as a researcher on a triple JTV story for Steve Cannane on the federal government s Workchoices industrial relations reforms. This included a literature review, pre-interviews, organising interviews, setting up shoot dates, locations and visual ideas, writing a research brief and working within the JTV team. I have also shot a story as a reporter for triple jtv about a deaf girl who goes to music venues with friends. I did this in my spare time. It included me setting up the entire shoot, researching the story and directing the shots I required. Due to air in mid 2009.

3 ABC Television - Lateline Period: May 29-July 7, 2006 Position: Internship journalist for eight weeks. ABC Television s premier news and current affairs show hosted by Tony Jones. I worked here full-time as an intern over eight weeks. Skills: Sourcing, filming, reporting and researching stories, writing for television, selecting archive footage, working with editors and finding and producing stories. Highlights: Recording interviews with the first people to return to Australia from the Lebanon-Israel conflict that aired in another journalist s package. I conducted the interviews, competing with a large media contingent to get broadcast quality material unique to Lateline s coverage. Recording a six-minute feature on a group of West Papuan refugees planning to come to Australia as refugees. This story had not been broadcast elsewhere within the media and came at a sensitive time in Australian-Indonesian relations. I established and was able to verify independently allegations that their family members had been beaten by Indonesian military after they had fled.

4 Radio Journalism Radio National Summer Breakfast Position: Casual reporter. Period: late December One week. Duties: I produced one package on the Rudd Government s internet filter trial. This was a breaking news story that was replayed across ABC News online, Newsradio and followed by other media outlets. RN Summer Breakfast also followed this with an interview with opposition communication s spokesperson Nick Minchin that broke further news. I also arranged additional interviews for the show s presenter. SBS Radio (97.7fm) Alchemy Position: Casual reporter. Period: March 2, 2006-March Alchemy is a daily, hour-long show for SBS, featuring current affairs, music, arts and cultural talks content. Skills: Sourcing and researching stories, mini-disc recording in studio and portable, editing in Adobe Audition (Cool Edit) and writing cue sheets. Fifteen current affairs stories played. 2SER Radio (107.3fm) Position: Show producer - two days per week. Period: February 27-4 June Resigned to work full time at Triple J. Paid producer for two shows, Think MQ and Inquire MQ. Both shows are recorded at Macquarie University with show host, journalist, David Myton. Think MQ is a show that discusses ideas in the public domain and Inquire MQ is a show that examines research being conducted at Macquarie University. Skills: Sourcing and researching show ideas, editing scripts, organising suitable talent, panelling, editing and recording of the shows.

5 Print Journalism The Australian Newspaper Period: January 16-February 10, Position: Internship journalist for one month. The Australian is a national newspaper owned by News Limited. Skills: Sourcing and researching stories, note-taking, finding picture story ideas and concise writing. Fifteen stories published which included: The Cole commission examining Australian Wheat Board scandal. Delays affecting repayment of stolen wages to indigenous people. Funeral for murdered cab driver Youbert Hormozi. Blunt Magazine Position: Contributing music journalist. Period: August 2005-present. (Monthly publication) Blunt Magazine is an Australia and New Zealand wide alternative music magazine owned by Next Media. Duties: Write feature articles, write music news, and find new bands. I have written about The White Stripes, Bad Religion, Against Me!, Alkaline Trio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Sleepy Jackson and Gyroscope. Other Employment History Moran Health Care Group Position: Injury Management Officer. Period: March 2003-April Part time, 7.5 hours per week. Resigned to pursue journalism career. Period: March 2001-March Full time. Duties: Injury management of workers compensation claims for NSW, VIC and QLD.
