1 The extended toddler curriculum provides older toddlers with the Bible Truth and craft element that some are ready to experience before they enter the twos. The same Bible Truth will be told in four (or five) different ways throughout the month allowing for the repetition toddlers need and crave. Bible Time Draw It Craft Time Hurt Man Play Time The Thankful Alphabet
2 Bible Time Gather children on a rug or in a specific area of the classroom to tell the Bible Truth. Some kids (especially the younger ones) may wander. That s OK. They re still listening and learning! What You Need: Preschool Bible, butcher paper, markers LEADER: I have an awesome Bible Truth to share with you. It s actually a story that Jesus told to the people. This story starts with a man who was walking down a road. (Draw the road.) Some bad guys came, they took all his money, they hurt him, and they left him on the road. (Draw the hurt man.) He needed help! One man came by, but he didn t stop! (Write the numeral 1.) Then another man came by, but he didn t stop either. (Write the numeral 2.) That is so sad. No one was helping the hurt man. (Draw a sad face.) Finally, a Samaritan man came by. (Draw a smiling, standing man.) He was from a different town and didn t like the people from the hurt man s town. But he stopped to help the hurt man anyway. Yay! The Samaritan stopped to help! He put bandages on the man s boo-boos and took him to a place where he could rest until he was all better. (Draw happy face.) The hurt man was very thankful that someone chose to be a happy helper and stopped to help him. And we can be thankful for people who help us too. [Bottom Line] I am thankful for people who help me. Tell me, friends: Who are you thankful for? [Bottom Line] I am thankful for people who help me.
3 Craft Time Gather small groups of children around you at a table for toddler craft time. Depending on the size of your group, you may lead the craft two or three times. Not every child may want to participate in craft time. That s OK. Feel free to send home the craft materials for them to complete with their mom or dad. What You Need: Hurt Man and Little Bandages Activity Pages, glue sticks, crayons What You Do: During the Activity: Retell the Bible Truth as the children glue the bandage on the hurt man. Have them color the picture if using the black and white image. What You Say: During the Activity: Today we heard a story that Jesus told. This story starts with a man who was walking down a road. Some bad guys came, they took all his money, they hurt him, and they left him on the road. He needed help! One man came by, but he didn t stop. Then, another man came by, but he didn t stop either. That is so sad. No one was helping the hurt man. Finally, a Samaritan man came by. He was from a different town and didn t like the people from the hurt man s town. But he stopped to help the hurt man anyway. Yay! The Samaritan stopped to help! He put bandages on the man s boo-boos and took him to a place where he could rest until he was all better. Look at your paper. It s the hurt man. He has so many boo-boos. Let s be like the good Samaritan and help him. Here s a bandage. You can glue it on his boo-boos. Good job! The hurt man was very thankful that the Samaritan chose to be a happy helper and stopped to help him. And we can be thankful for people who help us too. [Bottom Line] I am thankful for people who help me.
4 Playtime The Thankful Alphabet What You Need: Alphabet board books What You Do: Sit with several toddler friends looking at alphabet board books. As you look at the pictures, point out things you are thankful for. Continue as long as there is interest. What You Say: Friends, let s look at these fun books. Oh, look at this page! It has an apple on it. I am so thankful for apples. Are you? (Pause.) Here is a police person. I m thankful for the police. They are here to help us. I am thankful for people who help me.
